Do hurricane shutters reduce my insurance premium?

Often, yes. Many insurers offer discounts for homes with certified impact-rated protection. We can provide documentation to help you claim these benefits.

Can shutters increase my home’s value?

Yes. Hurricane shutters boost both safety and resale appeal. Buyers value homes that are storm-ready, and local appraisers often take them into account.

How do hurricane shutters work?

They form a protective shield over your windows and doors to block wind, debris, and water intrusion. This helps maintain the structural integrity of your home during hurricanes and tropical storms.

What kind of maintenance do shutters need?

Most systems are low-maintenance. Just rinse them off periodically and test them before storm season. We provide maintenance tips tailored to your shutter type.

Can hurricane shutters be customized to my windows and doors?

Yes. Every shutter is measured and built to fit your home’s exact dimensions—even for arched, oversized, or custom-shaped openings.

What’s the difference between accordion and roll-down shutters?

Accordion Shutters slide horizontally and fold out from the sides. They’re great for quick deployment and affordability.

Roll-Down Shutters lower vertically and can be motorized. They offer top-tier protection, a sleek appearance, and push-button convenience.

What type of shutter is best for me?

It depends on your home, budget, and how often you’re here. We offer a free design consultation to help you choose between Bahama, roll-down, accordion, and colonial shutters.

Do hurricane shutters help with energy savings?

Yes. Many shutters offer insulation benefits by blocking the sun and heat, which can help lower your cooling bills during Florida’s hot season.

Can I mix different types of shutters on the same home?

Absolutely. Many homeowners combine styles—like roll-downs for large openings and Bahama shutters for curb appeal—to balance protection, cost, and design.

Which shutters offer the most convenience?

Roll-down shutters are the most convenient. With motorized options and remote control, they deploy in seconds—ideal for snowbirds and those who travel frequently.

Are Bahama shutters only decorative?

No. Our Bahama shutters are engineered for storm protection and style. They’re impact-rated, code-approved, and offer continuous shade and privacy year-round.

Do Colonial shutters provide real storm protection?

Yes. Colonial shutters are more than classic charm—they’re strong, hinged panels that meet Florida’s impact code. When secured, they shield windows from wind and debris.

What’s the most affordable hurricane shutter option?

Accordion shutters typically offer the best value. They’re durable, code-approved, and easy to deploy—especially for large homes or rental properties

How do I know which shutter is right for a second-story window?

For higher floors, roll-downs are often best due to motorized deployment. They eliminate the need for ladders and reduce pre-storm stress.

Can shutters protect sliding glass doors and lanais?

Yes. Roll-downs and accordions are perfect for wide spans like sliding doors, lanais, or patio enclosures. We customize each system for secure, seamless coverage.

Will I lose visibility with shutters closed?

Some visibility is reduced, but we offer options like clear polycarbonate panels and motorized screens that allow light while still providing protection.

How do I prepare shutters before a storm?

We walk you through the process during installation. Most shutters take just minutes to secure—no tools or ladders required for most systems.

Can I install shutters myself?

We don’t recommend it. Improper installation can void warranties or fail during a storm. Lafferty ensures professional-grade, code-compliant installation every time.

Can I finance my hurricane shutters through Lafferty?

Yes. We offer flexible financing options through partners like Hearth, making it easier to get protection now and pay over time.

What credit score do I need to qualify?

Many of our financing partners work with a wide range of credit scores. You can check your options without affecting your credit score.

Is financing available for second homes or rental properties?

Yes. Financing is available for primary residences, second homes, and investment properties—as long as you meet the lender’s basic qualifications.

How much can I finance?

Loan amounts typically range from $1,000 to $100,000, depending on your credit profile and lender terms. Most projects fall well within that range.

Are there monthly payment options?

Absolutely. Choose from several monthly payment plans with fixed terms—so you know exactly what to expect, no surprises.

Will financing delay my shutter installation?

No. Once approved, we can move forward quickly with scheduling your install—just like a standard project.

Can financing help me get better shutters?

Yes. Financing gives you flexibility to choose higher-performing or motorized options without stretching your budget all at once.

Is financing safe and legitimate?

Yes. We partner with Hearth, a trusted financing platform that works with reputable home improvement lenders. Your information is secure and handled with care.

Does financing affect my warranty or service quality?

Not at all. Whether you pay upfront or finance, you’ll receive the same premium products, expert installation, and full warranty coverage from Lafferty Hurricane Protection.

How long do project estimate appointments take? When should I expect my estimate from my salesman?

Estimate appointments can take as little as 30 minutes or up to an hour and take place in phases.

Phase #1(5-15 min): Meet and greet, and discuss projects, after this is complete you may relax.
Phase #2 (5-10 min): Salesmen begin taking measurements, photos, and 3D scans if needed.
Phase #3 (15-20 min): The salesperson prepares the handwritten estimate(s).
Phase #4 (5-15 min): The salesperson returns to the homeowner to present and discuss the estimate(s).

Note: estimates can also be prepared without anyone present at home. The salesperson will need access to the area (fence unlocked, etc.) and may need to call to receive details for the estimate to be complete and accurate.

Most estimates are prepared during the on-site visit. You can expect to receive the estimate(s) on the day of the appointment and a follow-up email with a scan of the estimates(s).

In some cases, additional details may be required and the estimate may need to be emailed over after the appointment (within 24-48 hours).
